Comedy & Cabaret

We value programming mixed disciplines into our lineups to keep the audiences minds on their toes and shows fast paced whilst still keeping excitement about the power of words at the forefront. We are not a booking agency but event makers. Check out some of the comedy and cabaret acts we love to book on our lineups.

Phenomonopoly

'If Dali recreated Life-Sized-Monopoly Via

Under Milkwood'

Three audience members compete in this surreal estate gameshow to create the most absurd poem. The dice is a painting of a dice which shouts arbitary numbers, the money is replaced by words given to you by the characters who burst into performances as you land on their squares. Make sense? Course not. Thats what makes it so brilliant!

Whether it's landing on Waterworks to have the back of their head read in the toilet bowl of truth by Phenomonopoly's giant sacred dogfather (Our Mutt), landing on King's Crustacean to 'phone a friend' via our Salvadora Dahliing's shellphone or arriving at Community Chest to be chased around the stage by giant and overly keen anthropomorphic breast  ('The Persistence of Mammary'), the players and audience will never forget this show for all the wrong, but fun wrong, reasons.

John Swale; Poetry and cabraet compere

'The best compere in the business' (Jon Corbett, Secret Garden Party)

John Swale is a compere who has performed all over Europe. From dressing as 'Grandma Starflash' (the hip hop hip operational geriatric) to control 8000 strong crowds on the main stage of Secret Garden Party to Mcing a comedy show on the intimate mountain stages of MITM Bulgaria, from playing the devil to introduce fire and aerial acts at a  large and rowdy hell-themed cabaret show at The Loco Klub in Bristol to bigging up burlesque acts at David Lynch's private Club Silencio in Paris, Swale is a compere of diversity.

Swale has been called 'a great and unique compere' (Luke Wright, Saboteur Awards spoken word artist of the Year),  'I don't know how he does it, it's poetry plus' (Roger McGough), 'A true performer...diverse...and great guy to work with' (Annie Horne, co-founder of the Isle of Wight Festival) and 'an erudite loudmouth, uncompromising compere and funny f****r' (Tim Bricheno, Sisters of Mercy).

Lachlan Werner

LGBTQ New Comedian of the Year Finalist

Described as 'Outstanding comedy ventriloquism' (Reviews Hub *****), 'a hilarious sell-out queer horror' (Broadway Baby *****) and 'ventriloquism as you've never seen it.- a bloody queer campy horror!' (AllinLondon.co.uk), we believe Lachlan Werner is the oddest comic gold and it needs to be beholden and everybody is entitled to The Mother Wolf's opinion! Specifically, according to Fringe Review, Lachlan Werner is 'whackily gifted' and 'hypnotically good'. Part scary, part rip-roaringly hilarious, 100 percent Lachlan Werner. As unique as they come and this is why we love it when his genius features at the Mother Wolf Club shows.

Rob Auton

Winner of Funniest joke of the Edinburgh Fringe festival Award 2013

Rob is a stand-up poet who has appeared on BBC1, BBC2, Channel 4 and Netflix and had his work played on the radio by Jarvis Cocker, Cerys MAtthews and Scroobius Pip.

Here's what the critics say;

'Charming, eccentic and uplifting, Auton is a talent to wartch' (the Independent)

'Poetial, philosophical, completely charming and funny to boot' (The Guardian)

'We need him' (The Scotsman)

Luke Wright

'As witty as Oscar Wilde' ***** (Reviews Hub )

Luke is a Fringe first winner for new writing, The Stage Award winner for acting, has opened for the Libertines and is regular support act for John Cooper Clarke. He has written poems for two documentaries on Channel 4 and curated the Poetry Arena at Latitude Festival.

Luke was also a founder member of Aisle 16 which helped to kick start a British renaissance in the spoken word scene in the early noughties. Luke is the perfect performer to excited fresh minds about the power of words and wit.

Naomi Wood

“Breathtaking aerials” (Cabaret Scenes Magazine)

Witnessing Naomi Wood do her thing is spectacle that could make seeing the Northern lights seem like watching paint dry. Doing what Naomi does on a hoop would leave most dizzier than Pete Burns on a G-force machine but our Naomi looks like she was born on that hoop, like it and her were soul buddies and will never be parted...if only for a millsecond whilst she flips into the next breathtaking position.

She's also a qualified stunt poet... climbing on rhyme, as her words perform entrechats like acrobats along tightropes of her own making she keeps her audiences enraptured as to what tricks of her silver tongue are going to come next.

The Motherwolf Crew; Grandma Starflash, Greek God Herpes, Lil Red Rhymin' Hood & The Other Wolf)

We like to 'keep it surreal' at any opportunity at The Mother

Wolf Club which is why from the main stages of Secret Garden Party to the more intimate art galleries of Prague, from the corporate formalities of the UK Festival awards to David Lynch's club in Paris our MWC Characters have stepped in to make the events, 'the best thing in surrealism since sliced eyeballs', according to Write Your Own Reviews Magazine anyway.

Whether it's Grandma Starflash  playing 'gangsta rap and hip hop storytime' with 8000 ravers, Greek god Herpes reciting lewd haikus between bands at The Channel Island's Vale Earth Fair or The Mother Wolf and Lil Red Rhymin' Hood being chased around the stage by The Other Wolf at The Isle of Wight Festival they 'are the only crew you need to turn a placid, flacid audience into a rabid feral crocodile' (Itch, The King Blues).

Harry Baker

“Simply put... The greatest performer on earth” ***** (BBC Radio 1)

With 6 million views of one youtube video alone Harry Baker, it's safe to say is one of our go to guys for exciting new audiences about spoken word. He performs all over the world and the reviews say it all;
“Simply put... The greatest performer on earth” ***** (BBC Radio 1)“Spectacularly Witty” ***** (Whatsonstage) “Blistering wordplay” ***** (Threeweeks) “Not one syllable out of place” ***** (The Wee Review) “The Spell Over The Audience Is Tangible” ***** (Broadway Baby) .

Kid Anansi

'A creative hurricane'- (Benjamin Zehaniah)

Kid Anansi is the poetic equivalent of finding out that the drinks machine in your local McDonalds has quietly replaced its Pepsi button with spiced rum. He is confusing, frightening, delicious with ginger beer and lemon, and unhealthy in large doses.

He has performed on TV for Sky Arts BAFTA Award Winning Show ‘ Life & Rhymes and on the Poetry and Words Stage at Glastonbury where he was reviewed as 'phenomenal, powerful, funny, hyer ball of pure energy nd lyrical dexterity'.

Clare Ferguson Walker

Bang said the gun 'Golden Gun' winner

Clare Ferguson Walker is a multi award winning slam poet who has performed throughout the UK at many literary events including at the London Paladium, the Cabaret stage at Glastonbury Festival and at the Apollo. A regular supporter of John Cooper Clarke who describes her as "F*****g Hilarious" Phil Jupitus describes her as "Absurdly Talented" John Hegley describes her as "Wonderful". Her first collection "Ghost Writer" is now in its 10th print run.

She is the perfect balance of funny and emotively provoking just how we like it at The Mother Wolf Club.
